No. 9 Knights Finish Third in NEC Bowling Regular Season Standings


Day Two

WALLINGFORD, Conn. - The No. 9 Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling team finished the 2015-16 NEC regular season with an 11-9 record after going 2-3 on day two of the second NEC Meet on Sunday.

Saint Francis U wins the Regular Season Title, which snaps Fairleigh Dickinson's streak of five.

In the first of five baker matches, the Knights took care of Caldwell, 991-847. Against the Cougars, the Knights won all five games. The closest win came in game two where the Knights won by four pins, 211-207. The next three games saw the Knights win by at least 30 pins.

Match two's opponent was No. 14 LIU Brooklyn. The Knights fell to the Blackbirds 977-889. LIU Brooklyn did what Fairleigh Dickinson did to Caldwell in match one -- win all five games. The two closest games were the fourth and fifth ones when the 14 pins and 10 pins respectively.

Fairleigh Dickinson was able to get back into the win column in match three against No. 19 St. Francis Brooklyn. The Knights took down the Terriers 1,015-891. The Knights logged games of 207, 232 and 220 to win games one, two and three. Fairleigh Dickinson won game four by four pins, 190-186. The Terriers did win game five, 188-166.

The Knights dropped match four of the day to No. 23 Sacred Heart, 964-868. The Pioneers won big in game one, 242-191, and game five, 160-135. The Knights did win game two, 179-176, but dropped games three and four by 14 and nine respectively.

No. 12 Saint Francis U handed Fairleigh Dickinson back-to-back losses in match five. The Knights did roll their highest score of the day with a 1,031 but the Red Flash topped it with a 1,041. Fairleigh Dickinson won game one, 233-174, but the margin was nearly erased entirely in game two by the Red Flash with a 218-175 win. The Red Flash would go on to win games three, four and five to clip the Knights by 10.

The No. 9 Knights have a week off before wrapping up the regular season at the Vanderbilt Music City Classic in Smyrna, Tennessee on March 18-20.

WALLINGFORD, Conn. - Number nine Fairleigh Dickinson went 3-2 over five team game matches on the first day of the second Northeast Conference meet in Wallingford, Connecticut. The Knights are now 9-6 in NEC play so far this season.

The 9-6 NEC record puts the Knights in second place, one game behind Sacred Heart.

Melanie Hannon (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Maryvale) led the way for the Knights on the day. The junior averaged 213.4 over the five traditional games. Morgan Brown (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) and Nicolette Sarin (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township High School) both averaged over 195 over the five games as well for the Knights.

The Knights squared off with No. 14 LIU Brooklyn in the first match of the day for both sides. Rebecca Fischer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Northgate) rolled a 232 -- best score of the day by a Knight -- and Hannon had a 222. Fairleigh Dickinson, however, came up one pin short against LIU Brooklyn and lost 1,033-1,032. The Knights are now 3-3 against the Blackbirds this season. The loss snapped a five-match winning streak for Fairleigh Dickinson.

Fairleigh Dickinson bounced back in match number two of the day against No. 19 St. Francis Brooklyn. The Knights cruised past the Terrier, 1,054-924. Four Knights bowled, at least, a 210, led by Sarin's 227 and Brown's 224. The 1,054 would be the high score for the day for Fairleigh Dickinson.

Match three against No. 23 Sacred Heart, the Knights made it back-to-back wins with a 986-898 triumph. Hannon was over 200 -- which she did in every game on the day -- once again with a 212 to pace the attack. Brown rolled a 201 and Sarin and Morgan Walsh (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Maryvale) -- reigning NEC Rookie of the Week -- were both over 195 for the Knights.

A third straight win came the Knights way in match four against Caldwell, 979-862. Sarin had a 224 for the Knights and Hannon joined her in the 200s with a 214. Natasha Ashby (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Academy) had an 180 and Fischer and Walsh combined for an 187.

The fifth and final match of the day saw the Knights battle No. 12 Saint Francis U. The Red Flash came out on top with 947-890 win. Hannon and Walsh led the way with a 206 and a 198 respectively.

All six schools return to action tomorrow in five baker matches.
