TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team will travel to Bridgeport, Connecticut this weekend to take on the Pioneers of Sacred Heart in a Northeast Conference series. The Knights (11-10, 3-1 NEC) and Pioneers (10-10, 4-0 NEC) are scheduled to begin the series on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
The traditional weekend format will be altered due to concerns about inclement weather. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
The Knights opened NEC play by winning three games against Mount St. Mary's two weekends ago, while the Pioneers moved to 4-0 with a sweep of LIU Brooklyn last week.
FDU enters the game as one of the most aggressive base running teams in the nation with 2.33 stolen bases per game, a number that ranks fifth among NCAA Division I teams. Junior shortstop
Matt McCann (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro ) leads the way on the bases with 18 steals on the season (sixth nationally).
On the mound the Knights have a pair of pitchers that enter the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record. Freshman
Chris Kachmar (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) is 3-0 and redshirt junior
Logan Frati (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport/South Manor) has been dominant, throwing shutouts in his last two starts.
Frati ranks sixth in the country with a 0.57 earned run average and has allowed just one extra base hit on the season. Over his last two starts he has allowed just six hits and zero runs over 16 innings, while striking out 23.
