TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team will open Northeast Conference play with a four game series against Mount St. Mary's split over Friday, March 18 and Saturday, March 19. The Knights (6-7) and Mountaineers (1-9) will play doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday with both scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
Please note that the series format has been altered due to concerns about incoming weather on Sunday.
The Knights enter the weekend winning four of their last five games, including a four-game series sweep of Hofstra last weekend.
The Knights received an excellent pitching performance from freshman
Chris Kachmar (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) who tossed a complete game shutout in a 7-0 win on Saturday. Offensively, the Knights were led by senior first baseman
John Giakas (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) who batted over .400 for the week and launched four home runs in the series. Giakas also drove in eight runs and played exceptional defense at first base.
Giakas was named NEC Player of the Week for his performance last week and Kachmar was honored as the NEC Rookie of the Week.
