Box Score 2 BETHLEHEM, Pa. - For the second straight day,
John Giakas (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) hit two home runs and the Fairleigh Dickinson (6-6) baseball swept Lehigh in a doubleheader. On Sunday, the Knights did it on the road after beating the Mountain Hawks twice at home on Saturday.
Giakas hit two solo home runs in the second game of the doubleheader -- a 6-5 win for the Knights and
Logan Frati (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport/South Manor) pitched four and a third innings in game one to earn the win as Fairleigh Dickinson won 5-4.
Game 2
Lehigh scored in the first inning once again in game two. Patrick Donnelly got the home side on the board with an RBI double down the left field line.
Fairleigh Dickinson tied the game at one in the second inning. Craig Alleyne singled to right that plated
Dylan Sprague (Brunswick, N.Y./Averill Park).
The Knights took the lead on the first of Giakas' homers in the top of the fourth. Giakas has four on the season.
Evan McDonald (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm) scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to make it 3-1 in favor of the Knights.
David Young promptly tied the game at three in the bottom half of the sixth with a two-run homer run to left center.
Giakas' second home run of the day made it 4-3 Knights in the top of the eighth inning. Jayson Fatzinger homered with one out in the ninth to make it 5-3 Knights.
Shane Siebler (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) hit an opposite field double down the right field line to score
Jose DeLeon (Paterson, N.J./Eastside) with two outs in the ninth and give Fairleigh Dickinson a 6-3 lead.
The Knights would need all of those insurance runs as Lehigh scored twice in the bottom of the ninth. Nalesnik singled to get the Mountain Hawks within one with two outs. David Young then struck out to end the game.
Tim Quinn (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) pitched one and two-thirds in relief of
John Chalupa (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) got the win.
Ryan Brennan (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville) picked up his second save of the day and fourth of the season. Chalup pitched six innings, struck out five and allowed three runs.
The Knights return home to host Hofstra on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and open Northeast Conference play this coming weekend when Mount St. Mary's comes to Naimoli Family Baseball Complex for four games.
Game 1
Fairleigh Dickinson scored twice in the top half of the first inning.
Bobby Romano (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan ) tripled to right that plated
Matt McCann (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro ). Giakas then knocked Romano in with a single through the left side.
Lehigh answered with three runs in the bottom half to take a 3-2 lead. Mike Garzillo reached on an error that allowed Jason Bleming and Jacen Nalesnick to score. Garzillo came around to score on a Mackey Price groundout later in the inning.
The Knights did the rest of their scoring in the second when McCann singled to bring home
Jose DeLeon (Paterson, N.J./Eastside). Romano had his second RBI of the day with an RBI groundout that plated
Shane Siebler (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area).
Lehigh would get one back in the third inning but that was it. The Mountain Hawks would get four baserunners over the remaining four innings -- none would advance past second base.
Logan Frati (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport/South Manor) (1-0) got his first in of the season by going four and a third while striking out seven and allowing four runs.
Ryan Brennan (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville) picked up his third save by working a perfect ninth inning.
