Box Score LOS ANGELES - Monmouth broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth with a run in the fifth and then six in the six to pull away from Fairleigh Dickinson and beat the Knights for the second straight day.
Monmouth (6-5) added two more runs in the top of the seventh to make it an 11-2 final over Fairleigh Dickinson (1-7).
Monmouth took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning after Katie Brown hit a two-run home run to left field.
Kellie Natham (Arcadia, Calif./Maranatha) got the Knights back within one quickly. The freshman deposited the second pitch of the bottom of the second over the left-field fence.
Fairleigh Dickinson tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Natham led off with a single -- pinch ran for by
Stephanie Collins (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills).
Courtney Slye (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley) was hit by a pitch and a
Reanna Cervantes (Upland, Calif./Upland) singled loaded the bases. Collins scored on a wild pitch to tie the score at two. The Knights reloaded the bases but left all three runners stranded.
Monmouth scratched one across in the top of the fifth after two walks, a steal and sacrifice fly.
Francine Villalobos (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) singled to start the bottom of the fifth and stole second. Madalaine Wilen then singled and advanced to second as Villalobos moved to third. The two were stranded there as Sydney Underhill got the next three Knights to end the frame.
Amanda Riley doubled the Hawk lead in the sixth with an RBI single to right field off a 1-0 pitch. Emma Hill hit a sacrifice fly to center that drove in Riley. Rachel Shotzbarger doubled to right to make it 7-2 Monmouth. Justene Reyes then homered to bring home Shotzbarger and cap the six-run inning for the Hawks.
Sydney Underhill (4-4) picked up the win for Monmouth after throwing four perfect innings in relief.
Cheryl Lopez (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) (1-2) suffered the loss after throwing 5 1/3 innings and allowing six earned runs.
The Knights return to action tomorrow with a doubleheader against Harvard and Loyola Marymount -- the hosts -- at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. eastern respectively.
