Baseball Sweeps Lehigh On Saturday

TEANECK, N.J. – Senior Shane Siebler (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) got the Fairleigh Dickinson offense going with a home run to lead off the bottom of the first inning and the Knights never looked back as they rolled to a sweep of Lehigh in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex.  The Knights won the first game 10-6 and the second 7-0.

In the second game freshman Chris Kachmar (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) dominated on the mound holding the Mountain Hawks to four hits over seven shutout innings.

The Knights improve to 4-6 on the season with the sweep and will also travel to Lehigh for a doubleheader on Sunday.

Game One
The Knights connected on a pair of first inning home runs, a leadoff blast by Siebler and a two-run homer by senior John Giakas (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) three batters later, to jump out to an early 3-0 lead.

FDU tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second with a two-run double by junior Matt McCann (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro ) and added two more in the third on RBI doubles by senior Pat McClure and freshman Craig Alleyne.

The Mountain Hawks also broke through in the third inning with two runs against freshman right-hander Corey Zeller (Carroll, Ohio/Bloom Carroll).  Zeller worked 5.1 innings and limited Lehigh to four runs on four hits.  He struck out four and only walked one.  He was credited with the win, the first of his collegiate career.

Senior Dylan Sprague (Brunswick, N.Y./Averill Park) and McClure each drove in a run in the fifth inning with a double and McCann drove in a run with a double in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 10-6 game.

Freshman Tim Quinn (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) worked a scoreless seventh inning to close out the game.

McClure led the offense with three hits in three at bats. He also drove in two runs, as did Giakas who was two-of-three at the plate.  McCann led the team with three runs batted in.

As a team the Knights had 11 hits, including six doubles and two home runs.
 
Game Two
Giakas was at it again in the second game as he connected on a second inning three-run home run that broke the game open and gave the Knights an early 6-0 lead.  The

FDU scored three times in the first inning with two runs scoring on a single by McClure and the third coming in on a base hit by freshman Evan McDonald (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm).

Giakas provided the offense in the second inning with his two-out home run and the Knights added a seventh run in the fifth inning on a double by senior Jose DeLeon (Paterson, N.J./Eastside).

McDonald collected two hits in two at bats and also drove in a run.  McClure added two RBI to finish the day with four runs batted in and Giakas' three run home run gave the Knights a
Giakas finished the day with five runs batted in.

Kachmar limited the Mountain Hawks to just four hits and seven total base runners in his seven innings of work.  He struck out five and faced just 28 batters in his shutout.
 
The Knights will return to action on Sunday with a doubleheader at Lehigh.  They will host Hofstra on Tuesday and Mount St. Mary's for a weekend series.
