Box Score LEXINGTON, S.C. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team fell to Maryland Eastern Shore in its season opener on Friday, February 19. The Knights surrendered three unearned runs in the 5-1 setback.
UMES, designated as the away team for the neutral site game, scored a single run in the top of the fourth and added another in the fifth.
The Knights (0-1) tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning as senior
Dylan Sprague (Brunswick, N.Y./Averill Park) drove in redshirt junior
Ryan Brennan (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville) with a fielder's choice.
The Hawks (1-0) maintained a 2-1 lead into the ninth inning. UMES plated three additional runs in the top of the ninth, but all three were unearned due to three FDU fielding errors.

Shane Siebler (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) led the offense with two of the Knights six hits. Junior
Matt McCann (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro ), sophomore
Bobby Romano (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan ), Brennan and senior
John Giakas (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) also had hits in the game.
Junior
Joe Flack (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) started for the Knights and tossed five innings, while limiting the Hawks to two hits and two runs. He struck out five and walked just one batter, but takes the loss to fall to 0-1 on the season.
Junior
Danny Demetrops (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) worked a scoreless sixth and seventh before handing the ball to freshman
Evan Layne (Brooklyn, N.Y./Telecommunications) who worked in and out of trouble in a scoreless eighth inning.
Freshman
Tim Quinn (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) pitched the ninth and allowed three runs, all unearned. He surrendered just one walk and one hit in the frame.
The Knights and Hawks will continue the series with a 1 p.m. game on Saturday and then close out the opening weekend with a 10 a.m. game on Sunday.
