HACKENSACK, N.J. – For the third straight game the Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team had a shot to tie the game and force overtime, but a 3-pointer from
Peniel M'Bikata was off line as well as her follow up and Fairleigh Dickinson fell 66-64 to Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon.
Fairleigh Dickinson (2-11, 0-2 NEC) held Robert Morris (6-7, 1-1 NEC) without a field goal for the final 7:24 of the game and outscored the Colonials 16-7 in the fourth, including the final 12 points of the contest.
Rebecca Navarro hit the final field goal for Robert Morris at the 7:24 to finish with a game-high 22 points.
The Knights were down 66-52 after Navarro's three-pointer before making the run.
Peniel M'Bikata hit a jumper and then
Courtney Blankenship hit one from behind the arc to get Fairleigh Dickinson within nine, 66-57, with 6:27 left.
Kiana Brown then hit a layup with five minutes to play to make it a seven-point game. A three from M'Bikata with 4:15 to play made it a two-possession game, 66-62. That would be the score until less than a minute to play when Brown hit a contested jumper to make it 66-64.
On the next Robert Morris possession,
Lauren Francillon blocked a driving Janee Brown and
Kiana Brown collected the rebound as the Knights called time to draw up the final play with 25 seconds left.
M'Bikata eventually got the three-point try away from the left wing and followed her own shot and got off a rushed runner from the left side of the lane that was also off the mark. The rebound went out of bounds off of Fairleigh Dickinson. Robert Morris then inbounded the ball with 0.4 left to end the game.
Three Knights were in double figures; M'Bikata and Thomas had 12 and Francillon had 11 off the bench – her second straight game in double figures. M'Bikata added four assists, four steals and five rebounds to go along with her career high 12.
The Colonials were 12-of-18 from three-point range; with eight coming from Navarro. From two-point range, however, the Colonials were 11-of-32. The Knights shot 40-percent from three (8-of-20), for only the second time this season.
