HACKENSACK, N.J – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team prepares for the final regular season weekend of 2016 with a shot to host the 2016 NEC Tournament and repeat as conference regular season champions.
LAST TIME OUT
The Knights handed Central Connecticut its first NEC loss of the season on Sunday with a 2-0 win. Second half goals from
Jessi Reinhardt (Freiburg, Germany/Burggymansium) and
Stasi Torchia (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's) supplied the offense and
Amanda Fitzgerald (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) recorded her shutout of the season.
SERIES SCORE
The meeting on Friday will be the 19th all-time between Fairleigh Dickinson and LIU Brooklyn. The Blackbirds hold a 12-6 record all-time against the Knights but are 1-3 in the last four meetings after winning nine straight encounters from 2005 to 2012. The Knights have fared better against the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary's, possessing a 10-5-1 record and are winners of three straight in the series.
SCOUTING THE BLACKBIRDS
LIU Brooklyn sits at 2-14 and 1-6 in the NEC and is coming off a 1-0 loss to Sacred Heart on Sunday. Jenn Peters leads the offense for LIU Brooklyn with six goals and 13 points. The six goals are tied for the league lead and the 13 points are tied for second in the NEC. Madison Gomez is second on the team in points with nine (2G, 5A). Goalkeepers, Aline Allmann and Erin Harbison have split time over the past two games. Allmann has played more of the two over the season, logging 1,149 minutes while making 11 starts.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
Mount St. Mary's hosts Sacred Heart before closing the 2016 regular season with the Knights on Sunday. Mount is 4-11-1 and 0-6 in the NEC heading into the weekend. A pair of Mountaineers have at least 10 points this season; Jenna West has 11 (4G, 3A) and Jaylyn Chandler has 10 (4G, 2A).
NEC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Goalkeeper
Amanda Fitzgerald (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) was named NEC Rookie of the Week for the first time this season after going 1-1 last weekend and allowing just one goal over the two games. The first year Knight leads the NEC in saves per game at 6.17 and second in goals against average (0.62) in conference games this season.
SENIOR NIGHT
The Knights will honor the four graduating seniors from this year's team;
Kayla Adams (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering ),
Gabrielle Gibson (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South),
Connie Lewis (Outer Cove, Newfoundland/Gonzaga ) and
Giselles Perez (Carteret, N.J./Carteret). This group of seniors can be the first group of seniors to play in the NEC tournament in every season they were in Teaneck. This senior class has won 44 games, which is the most in school history.
SECOND TO NO ONE
The Knights have the NEC's number one offense again this season. Fairleigh Dickinson's 54 points, 20 goals, 3.18 points per game and 1.18 goals per game all lead the NEC.
KNIGHTS AMONG NEC LEADERS
Jessi Reinhardt (Freiburg, Germany/Burggymansium) is tied for the league lead with five assists and second in the NEC with 13 points (4G, 5A). Fitzgerald leads the NEC in saves with 101 and is second in saves per game at 6.31.
