Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer's NEC Regular Season Home Winning Streak Snapped

TEANECK, N.J. – For the first time since the 2012 season, Fairleigh Dickinson fell to a Northeast Conference opponent at home during the regular season. Robert Morris came into University Stadium and earned a 1-0 victory.

LIU Brooklyn was the last NEC team to Fairleigh Dickinson on its home field.

"We did not have any commitment," said head coach Eric Teepe afterward. "We lacked the extra effort, the extra player getting forward, getting on a second ball. We allowed them to dictate play and we let a game, that we should have won without question, get away from us."

Robert Morris (5-11, 3-3 NEC) got the deciding goal from Erin Ritzer in the 76th minute, who headed the ball in at the back post off a cross from Greer Monahan. The goal was Ritzer's first of the season.

Fairleigh Dickinson (5-10-1, 3-1-1 NEC) had its chances in the second half to take a lead or tie the game. With less than seven minutes to play, the Knights had two corner kicks that led to shots from Jackson Bennett (Toronto, Ontario/Humberside Collegiate Institute) and Meghan Griffin (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills). Bennett had three shots in the closing minutes; one was saved by Makenzie Shearson, one saved by Monahan after the shot got past Shearson and one went wide. Griffin had a chance off the save from Monahan but it was pushed wide left at the near post.

The Knights held a 20-12 shot advantage on the afternoon, including 13 in the second half but could not get anything past Shearson, who recorded her third straight shutout.

Jessi Reinhardt (Freiburg, Germany/Burggymansium) and Connie Lewis (Outer Cove, Newfoundland/Gonzaga ) tried to give the Knights the lead early in the second half but only Lewis--once--found the frame. Giselles Perez (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) had a bid hit the post off a Reinhardt corner. Perez's shot came after controlling a bouncing ball in the box.

The Knights kept coming forward but unfortunately they were unable to connect on some passes in and around the Robert Morris box that could have led to scoring chances.

"They are going to have to change their commitment to what it means to win a game. You cannot come and play a conference [game] like that. Now we are going to be fighting [for a tournament spot] until the final day."

Central Connecticut awaits Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday afternoon. Game time is set for 12 p.m. in New Britain, Connecticut.
