HACKENSACK, N.J. - The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball returns home to host Central Connecticut in a Northeast Conference game on Saturday, January 9.  The Knights (6-8, 2-1 NEC) and Blue Devils (1-13, 0-3 NEC) are scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip-off from Stratis Arena inside the Rothman Center.

A victory today would give the Knights a 3-1 record in conference, which would match the 2013-14 team's start to conference play.  In 2013-14 the Knights opened conference play with five wins in their first seven games.  The Knights are coming off an 80-68 victory over Sacred Heart on Thursday, while the Blue Devils fell on the road at Mount St. Mary's.
 
Series History:  This is 38^th all-time meeting between FDU and CCSU with the Knights holding a 20-17 advantage in the series.  FDU won both meetings last season and has won three-of-four under head coach Greg Herenda.  Prior to the 2013-14 season the Knights had lost three straight contests against CCSU.  Last year, FDU won 73-67 and 73-66 in the two meetings.
 
Last Season vs. CCSU:  FDU topped CCSU 73-67 to open Northeast Conference play and then closed out league play with a 73-66 win.  Current sophomore Marques Townes (Edison, N.J./St. Joseph (Metuchen)) was consistent against the Blue Devils last year scoring 16 points in both meetings.  He did it on 11-of-20 shooting from the floor and 8-of-10 at the free throw line.  Earl Potts Jr. (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding ) played well in the second meeting between the teams posting 14 points in 19 minutes of action.
 
Sophomore Scoring:  Four FDU sophomores - Earl Potts Jr. (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding ), Darian Anderson (Washington, D.C./St. John's College ), Stephan Jiggetts (Forestville, Md./Bishop McNamara) and Marques Townes (Edison, N.J./St. Joseph (Metuchen)) - currently rank as the team's top four scorers.  Potts leads the group at 15.6 per game, while Anderson (15.2), Jiggetts (11.3) and Townes (9.4) are close behind.  The quartet has accounted for 722 points this season, which is 68% of the team's scoring this year.
 
Closing in on 150 Wins:  Greg Herenda is in his 10th season as a collegiate head coach and to date he has amassed 149 career victories across all levels from junior college to NCAA Division I.  He has 18 wins at the junior college level, 12 at Division III and 95 from his five seasons at UMass Lowell when the school was Division II.  He has totaled 24 wins so far in his time as a Division I head coach at Fairleigh Dickinson.  His career record is 149-131.
 
Quick Notes on the Knights:  FDU is the only school with two players among the top-five in the NEC in scoring (Earl Potts Jr. (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding ) fourth at 15.6 ppg and Darian Anderson (Washington, D.C./St. John's College ) fifth at 15.2 ppg)…Sophomore Stephan Jiggetts (Forestville, Md./Bishop McNamara) had scored in double figures in six straight games before having the streak snapped Thursday at Sacred Heart…The Knights have been excellent at the free throw line in NEC play going 45-of-52 at the stripe, which is an 86.5% clip…The 41-28 advantage in rebounding against Sacred Heart gave FDU a +13 rebounding margin, the team's best performance against a Division I opponent dating back to the 2010-11 season.
 
On the Boards: The Knights +13 rebounding margin (41-28) against Sacred Heart on January 6 was the best mark against a Division I opponent since the Knights had a +21 mark (52-31) in a 75-64 victory over Houston Baptist on January 17, 2011.
