When: Saturday, January 30, 2016 – 3:00 p.m.
Series History: FDU leads 50-49
First Meeting: 1/22/51 – LIU  W, 97-48
Last Meeting: 1/21/16 - FDU W, 101-95
Last FDU Win: 1/21/16 - FDU W, 101-95

Series History:  This is 100th meeting in the all-time series between these programs with FDU holding a slight 50-49 advantage over the previous 99 encounters.  The Knights used a huge second half to come back and beat the Blackbirds on January 21.  The 101-95 victory was the team's highest scoring performance in over a decade and it was the highest scoring NEC game in over three years.  Last season the teams split with the road team winning in each game.  The first meeting between these schools took place on January 22, 1951 with LIU winning 97-48.  Under head coach Greg Herenda the Knights are 3-1 against the Blackbirds.

Halfway Home:  The month of January is drawing to a close and the NEC slate has reached the midpoint.  After nine of 18 games, FDU sits at 6-3 in the league and is tied with Wagner for second in the NEC standings.  The Knights and Seahawks have yet to play this season, but meet on Feb. 4 and Feb. 18.

FDU's Edge:  Freshman Darnell Edge (Saugerties, N.Y./Saugerties) has seen his minutes rise sharply over the last five games leading to a breakout 20-point performance against Saint Francis U on Thursday, January 28.  Edge came off the bench and played a career-high 26 minutes while connecting on 7-of-11 from the field and four-of-seven from beyond the arc.  Over his last five contests he is averaging 8.0 points per game.

Block Party:  With FDU up 84-82 and five seconds remaining in overtime, sophomore Marques Townes (Edison, N.J./St. Joseph (Metuchen)) blocked a layup by SFU's Ronnie Drinnon to secure a victory for the Knights.  Earl Potts Jr. (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding ) secured the rebound following the block and passed to Darian Anderson (Washington, D.C./St. John's College ) who was fouled.  Anderson hit two free throws and the Knights won 86-82.  The block was just the second of the season for Townes.

Quick Notes on the Knights:  The last time an FDU team was above .500 later than January 20 was the 2006-07 season.  That year FDU was 9-8 after 17 contests and would be above .500 as late as the 27th game.  A win today would put FDU over .500.

The Knights win on Thursday gave them six in the month of January.  It is the first time since February of 2006 that FDU has won six or more games in a calendar month.  That season FDU won eight times in the month of February.

Thursday's win gave the Knights 10 on the season, which matches the total that the team had in the 2013-14 season, the first under head coach Greg Herenda.  The last time FDU won more than 10 games in a season was the 2009-10 season when the squad posted 11 victories.
