Box Score AMBLER, Pa. – Temple got goals from three different players to earn the 3-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in the season opener for both teams.
Paula Jurewicz got a pass from Kayla Cunningham to give the Owls (1-0) the lead in the fourth minute. After the goal, the Knights were trying to get back level quickly but the Owls pressure defense was preventing the Knights (0-1) from mounting sustainable possession in the attacking third.
After halftime, Fairleigh Dickinson came out attacking to try and generate some offense.
Carly Tice (Highland Falls, N.Y./James I. O'Neill ) made a run up the right side and crossed in a ball into the six-yard box, but no Knight was able to get on the other end of it. On Temple's next rush, the Owls doubled their advantage when Kelly Farrell put one home when she beat
Felicia Burr (Bellingham, Mass./Blackstone-Millville ) high from the top of the box in the 58th minute.
Rachel Hoekstra (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central ) tried to cut the lead in half, but her effort from outside the 18 was denied by Shauni Kerkoff.
Elma Kolenovic (Manhattan, N.Y./NYC Lab) also tried to get the Knights back into the game, but Kerkoff was there again in the 68th minute.
Temple got more insurance when Elana Falcone scored off an
elevated shot off a loose ball in from of the net and it to make it 3-0.
The Knights had a chance to get on the board in the final minute when
Jessi Reinhardt (Friedberg, Germany/Burggymansium) earned a penalty kick. Tice came up to take the kick but was denied by Jordan Nash—who came on for Kerkoff. Nash also saved the rebound chance from
Connie Lewis (Outer Cove, Newfoundland/Gonzaga ) to preserve the shutout.
