Box Score 2 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson softball team swept local rival Saint Peter's in a nonconference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. Game one saw the visitors earn victory with a seven-run eighth inning and game two was yet another complete game shutout from senior
Megan Reiner (Los Angeles, Calif./John Marshall). The Knights, who have now won four straight contests and six of their last eight, move to 13-17 (7-5 NEC) on the season, while the Peacocks fall to 2-32 (1-13 MAAC) overall.
"Two good wins out of conference," Head Coach
Candi Letts said, "Megan had a nice game on the mound and Maddie Lerma had a good day at the plate. These wins help us stay in competitive mode for this important NEC weekend."
Junior
Loren Stavrou (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson Classical High School), coming off three straight complete game victories in her previous three starts, started in the circle for game one and went the distance, allowing 15 hits and six earned runs over eight innings.
Senior
Bryana Dorado (Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard) got the game started with a RBI single to score classmate
Angelique Nieves (Union City, N.J./High Tech High School), who had just stolen second base.
Stavrou allowed two doubles in the bottom of the first and the Peacocks got on the board with a sac fly.
The hosts took a 3-1 lead in the second with three singles and a double steal of second and home.
Madison Lerma (Escondido, Calif./Escondido) tied the game up with her sixth home run of the season, scoring Nieves.
FDU regained its lead with a three-run fifth inning on five hits. Nieves scored for the third time in three trips to the plate and both Lerma and Dorado crossed home on a
Cheryl Lopez (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) single up the middle.
The Peacocks got one back in the fifth on a Samantha Storms RBI double and tied the game up at six apiece when Candice Koch homered to right.
Heading to extra innings, the Knights scored seven runs in the eighth when six straight hitters reached base.
Madelaine Wilen (Bakerfield, Calif./Ridgeview High School)'s RBI double got things started and she was followed by an
Alex Portesi (Chino, Calif./Don Antonio Lugo) RBI single, a Nieves single, a Dorado bunt single, a Lerma bases loaded walk, Slye's two-run single, and Reiner's two-run double to center, her first RBIs of the season.
Stravrou collects her fourth win in her last four starts and is now 4-7 on the season. Crystal Carlucci falls to 1-16.
Nieves and Dorado each tallied three hits in five at-bats, with the former notching four runs.
Reiner started in the circle for game two and had arguably her most dominating pitching performance of the season. The senior hurled seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits and a walk, while striking out a career-high 14 batters.
Dorado's third inning RBI single proved to be all Reiner would need in terms of offense but Lerma launched her seventh home run of the season, a three-run shot to left, later in the frame.
Alyssa Ruiz held FDU scoreless from that point on but fell to 0-7 on the season as Reiner silenced the Saint Peter's bats. Reiner moves to 9-6 this year with the win.
The Knights finish out the Northeast Conference slate this weekend with two home doubleheaders, first against Robert Morris on Saturday, April 25. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. NEC Front Row will carry live video coverage.
