Knights Rally for Series Win

Box Score
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team used a five run eighth inning to come from behind and defeat Central Connecticut by a score of 6-4 on Sunday.  The victory improves the Knights to 11-16 on the season and 5-7 in Northeast Conference play.  The Blue Devils fall to 11-19 and 5-7 with the loss.

"Unbelievable comeback for us today," head coach Gary Puccio said on Sunday afternoon.  "Scoring five runs in the eighth to erase a three run deficit was great.  That is the kind of comeback that can swing a team's momentum and really get us on a roll for the rest of the season.  On the mound Frati pitched well and got the ball to Snyder who shut the door."

Junior Logan Frati (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport/South Manor) pitched seven strong innings limiting CCSU to four runs on eight hits.  He allowed a single run in the sixth inning and three runs in the seventh.

The Knights got on the board with a single run in the fifth and five runs in a wild eighth inning.

Senior Shane Siebler (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) led off the eighth inning by reaching on a throwing error.  Sophomore Matt McCann (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro ) followed with a single and junior Dylan Sprague (Brunswick, N.Y./Averill Park) drove in Siebler with a base hit through the right side.  Then with one out, junior Pat McClure singled to score McCann and with two outs junior Joel Roman (East Hartford, Conn./East Hartford) doubled to score Sprague and McClure and give the Knights a 5-4 lead.  Freshman Jason Fatzinger (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) capped the rally by driving in Roman with a RBI single.

Senior Eric Snyder (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) entered the game in the bottom of the inning and recorded the final six outs to preserve the 6-4 victory.  Snyder put the Blue Devils down in order in both the eighth and ninth innings to earn his seventh save of the season.

Frati improves to 3-3 on the season with the victory.  Kevin Connolly took the loss for CCSU and falls to 2-1.

Fatzinger led the FDU offense with three hits in four at bats.  He also drove in and scored a run.  McCann and Siebler also had two hit games.  McClure and Sprague each had a base hit, RBI and run scored.  Roman scored once and drove in a pair.

The three victories this weekend move the Knights into a three-way tie for fourth place in the NEC standings.  FDU is tied with CCSU and LIU.  The Knights are off from conference play next weekend before hosting LIU at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex on May 1, 2 and 3.
