W. Bowling Starts in Second at Golden Bear Classic

Allentown, Pa. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling team opened the first day at the 10-team Kutztown Golden Bear Invitational, which featured 5-game total pin fall Baker matches on Friday. The second-ranked Knights are now 70-15 on the season.

FDU is in second place on the overall scoreboard, which is based on total pin fall. The Knights knocked down 4659 pins and trail thirteen-ranked St. Francis (4678). No. 20 ranked Delaware State (4545), Adelphi (4508) and No.18 Kutztown (4465) round out the top five.

The Knights took on Kutztown in the first match and narrowly defeated the Golden Bears (967-935). The Knights fought a tough battle with scores of, (206 -185; 172 -196; 159 -192; 232 -193; 198-169).

The second match brought FDU against Cheyney. The Knights brought their A-game defeating the Wolves 911-829. FDU continued on their winning streak with high games of, (197 -146; 178 -146; 190 -199; 192 -147; 154-191).

FDU came against NJCU in the third match of the day, defeating the Gothic Knights 974-716. The Knights continued on their winning streak with scores of (166 -113; 167 -118; 191 -171; 161 -146; 289-168).

The fourth match of day brought the Knights only loss of the day in a heartbreaker against Felician, 852-867. FDU fought hard but was unable to bounce back and defeat the Golden Falcons, (213 -185; 156 -156; 166 -203; 169 -180; 148-143).

The final match of the day brought FDU against Franklin Pierce, bringing the Knights their final win of the day 955-877. FDU bowled some their highest games of the day, (201-194; 208-137; 148-182; 196-182; 202-182).

"We're happy to come out of today's matches with a 4-1 record because we weren't gaining any momentum and playing with much consistency. Tomorrow when we play all of the teams in the top of the standings, we're going to need elevate our play, or else it will be a long day," said Head Coach Mike LoPresti

The Knights will face an even stiffer test on Saturday. Saturday's matches begin at 9:30 a.m. with five more total baker pin fall matches.
