Maddie Gibbons (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) to win the season series by today's scores of 25-15, 25-18, and 25-17.
The Knights defensive dominance smothered Saint Francis U forcing the conference opponent into 27 attack errors. In the opening set, FDU held SFU to -.049 hitting in part of the defensive prowess of sophomore
Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) and Gibbons who each tabbed three blocks this set. Such presence allowed for the Knights' to win by 10, the largest margin of victory for the afternoon.
On senior
Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson)'s serve, the Knights claimed a 13-8 lead in the second set off of the brink of a 7-0 run. From that point on, the Knights continued to retain control and would eventually take the set to go up 2-0 sets.
The Knights outscored the Red Flash winning the first eight points of the third set. The Knights credited four kills in the first six points forcing their opponent to call for time. Out of the break, Laton landed two consecutive kills to round off the run. She would go on to rack in three more kills to finish with the team-best of nine including one to award the Knights' sweep.
Senior
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) registered a game-high 30 assists for her club to go along with six digs. Sophomore
Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) added 13 digs while freshman libero
Savanna Wray (Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain) (12) and freshman
Mary Bell (Lafayette, Co. /Monarch) (11) also contributed.
FDU now improves to 10-16 and 3-8 in conference while SFU falls to 4-22 and 2-9 in the Northeast Conference.
