Box Score TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team fell to LIU Brooklyn on Friday night at University Stadium. The match was the Northeast Conference opener for both squads. LIU improved to 1-0 in NEC play and 4-5-2 overall with the victory, while the Knights fall to 2-7-1 and 0-1 in the NEC.
After falling behind 3-0 in the 70
th minute the Knights answered with a pair of scores that cut the Blackbird lead to a single goal.
In the 71
st minute, sophomore
Brett Conrads (Andover, N.J./Newtown) capitalized on junior
Christian Dietrich (Berlin, Germany/Flatow-Oberschule) saved shot to get the Knights on the board. Dietrich fired a low shot, which was deflected by the keeper, but Conrads, coming in from the opposite side, was able to finish for FDU's first goal of the match.
In the 77
th minute, an FDU corner kick was punched out by the goal keeper, but Dietrich was able to gather the ball just outside of the 18-yard box. He spun around and slipped a low shot between the defense and just inside of the post for FDU's second goal.
Following the two goals, the Knights continued to apply pressure to the LIU defense. The Knights earned a corner kick in the 88
th minute, but the attempt was cleared by the Blackbird defenders.
LIU scored in the 54
th minute as Naeem Charles connected on a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box. Charles curved the ball to the left of the FDU wall, just sneaking the shot inside of the far post for a goal.
The added their second goal in the 69
th minute on as Simen Hestnes delivered a touch pass to Nahuel Medina for a goal. LIU continued its offensive burst in the 70
th minute as Raffi Gregorian launched a hard shot from just outside the 6-yard box for the Blackbirds' third goal of the day.
In the first half the Knights earned a pair of corner kicks and posted four shots.
In the 10
th minute, freshman
Javen Palmer (London, England/Sedgehill) worked his way on goal and registered a shot, which was off target, but was deflected out of play by the goalkeeper for a corner kick. FDU's next chance came in the 18
th minute as junior
Christian Dietrich (Berlin, Germany/Flatow-Oberschule) delivered a corner into the box that was headed wide by freshman
Aaron O'Raw (Cork, Ireland/Colaiste Choilm).
Defensively, the Knights turned away each LIU chance. Senior
Tchamy Dantse Dantse (Darmstadt, Germany/Gymnasium-Gernsheim) was at the center of the action heading away a Blackbird corner attempt in the 40
th minute.
The Knights held a 14-7 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
The goal by Conrads was his second of the season. Dietrich's goal was also his second of the year. Dietrich added an assist to total three points on the day and improve his season total to a team-high eight.
The match was delayed 90 minutes because of lightning.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, October 13 against intrastate rival Princeton.
