Knights Claim Second Straight NEC Regular Season Title

Box Score

LORETTO, Pa. - Carly Tice (Highland Falls, N.Y./James I. O'Neill) and Rachel Hoekstra (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central) scored as the Knights hung on to beat Saint Francis U 2-1 on Friday afternoon to win and clinch a second straight Northeast Conference Regular Season Title.

Fairleigh Dickinson (13-5, 7-0 NEC) will host the Northeast Conference Tournament November 6 and 8 at University Stadium. The Knights also extended their winning streak to nine games.

"I think we competed well and battled through", said head coach Eric Teepe afterwards. "Saint Francis put us under a lot of pressure, but we managed to hang on. It is a great testament to our kids to know have won the league two straight years and it is well deserved."

Tice scored in the fifth minute to give the Knights the early 1-0. It was the senior's 11th of the season. The Highland Park, New York native tipped home a cross from Elma Kolenovic (Manhattan, N.Y./NYC Lab)-her sixth assist of the season-inside the six-yard box.

The Knights also has chances to extend the lead in the middle stages of the first half, but none found the back of the net.

Two minutes past the hour mark, Hoekstra headed home a corner kick from Jessi Reinhardt (Friedberg, Germany/Burggymansium) to double the Knight lead. The goal was the redshirt junior's 13th of the season. She breaks her own record for most goals in a season. Reinhardt now has three assists on the season.

Saint Francis U (4-12-2, 4-3-1 NEC) cut the lead in half when Shannon McGinnis converted from the penalty spot with 11 minutes to play. The Red Flash pressured the Knight defense, but they were unable to get a shot away in an effort to tie the game.

Felicia Burr (Bellingham, Mass./Blackstone-Millville) made five saves on seven shots to earn her 13th win of the season. The Knights made their shots count, only three were on goal.

Fairleigh Dickinson concludes the 2015 regular season on Sunday when they travel to Robert Morris for an 11 a.m. kick off in Moon Township.
