Box Score MOON TOWNSHIP, PA – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team fell to Robert Morris by a score of 2-1 on Friday afternoon. The Knights (2-10-1, 0-3 NEC) scored in the first half, but the Colonials (9-6-0, 3-1-0) answered with a pair of second half goal to win the match.
FDU played well in the first half attacking offensively and playing solid defense. The Knights held a 5-1 edge in shots at the half and capitalized on their pressure by scoring the contest's first goal in the 41
st minute.
Junior
Jordon Ellison (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) dribbled deep into RMU territory and then sent a cross into the box that a Colonial defender attempted to clear, but instead sent into the far left netting for the first goal of the match.
Freshman
Javen Palmer (London, England/Sedgehill) sent a pair of headers wide and junior
Simon Hernandez (Caracas, Venezuela/South Kent School) shot on goal in the 22
nd minute, but the save was made by RMU's keeper.
The Colonials tied the match in the 51
st minute as Andrew Scheidemantel shot high off the cross bar from 35 yards out. The rebound was recovered by Zac Sherman who passed quickly to Neco Brett who delivered the tying goal.
The Colonials would take the lead in the 65
th minute as Sherman raced down the right side off a pass from Lucas Puntillo to score what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
The Knights applied almost constant pressure over the final 17 minutes. FDU had eight shots either blocked or saved over that span. The Knights also had four corner kicks during that stretch.
Senior
Sam Durkot (Centereach, N.Y./Newfield) shot three times, in the 83
rd, 85
th and 86
th minutes, but each attempt was saved by the RMU's Brenden Alfery, including a pair of diving stops.
Alfery would finish with eight saves, most coming in the final minutes of the second half.
The Knights will return to action on Sunday at Saint Francis U. That match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start in Loretto, Pennsylvania.
