Box Score TEANECK, N.J. - Two goals from
Carly Tice (Highland Falls, N.Y./James I. O'Neill) and a goal from
Esther Rochon (Saint Romuald, Quebec/College Francois-Xavier-Garneau) were enough to secure a 3-1 win for Fairleigh Dickinson over the Wagner Seahawks on Sunday afternoon.
The Knights have won seven straight games-extending the program record-since losing at rv/19 St. John's back on September 20. The Knights have also won all seven games at University Stadium this season.
"We took control early and I think that kind of lulled us out of our attack. I did not think we did a good job of putting the game away and that made the last 15 minutes of the game more hectic than it needed to be", said head coach
Eric Teepe after the game.
"It is all about the next game. We have to be in the moment and worry about today. After today, we can rest and reflect on the match and move onto Bryant"
Fairleigh Dickinson (11-5, 5-0 NEC) is off their best start in NEC play in program history.
Rochon got the Knights on the board first with her goal in the ninth minute. The senior took a feed from
Patricia Seitz (Pfungstadt, Germany/Baden-Wurttemberg) and knocked it home from eight yards out. The goal was Rochon's third of the season.
Tice doubled the Knight lead in the 18th minute after Rochon played in a pass to her. Tice then evaded Katie Viscardi-the Wager goalkeeper-and put the ball into the open net.
The Knight defense held Wagner (2-11-1, 1-3 NEC) to one shot in the opening 45 minutes.
Just 4:10 into the second half, Tice headed home a corner kick from
Jessi Reinhardt (Friedberg, Germany/Burggymansium) to give the Knights a 3-0 lead. The two goals give the Highland Falls, New York native 10 on the season and set a new program record with her 26th point of the season. Fairleigh Dickinson tried to extend its lead, but the Wagner backline caught them offside six times.
Wagner got on the board in the 74th minute when Taylor Sackaris scored on an open goal after corralling a deflection off an FDU defender. The goal was Sackaris' sixth of the season.
Felicia Burr (Bellingham, Mass./Blackstone-Millville) played 70 minutes and made two saves to earn her 11th win of the season.
Deanna Persico (Aurora, Ontario/Cardinal Catholic) made her season debut and played the last 19-plus minutes.
Fairleigh Dickinson returns to action on Friday, October 23 when they host Bryant at University Stadium at 7 p.m. It is senior night and the team will be conducting a fundraiser for pediatric cancer.
