Box Score TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team dropped a Northeast Conference match to CCSU on Saturday night. The Knights (2-9-1, 0-2 NEC) scored once in the second half, but it was not enough as the Blue Devils (3-6-2, 1-1 NEC) held on for the 2-1 victory.
Trailing 2-0 at the half, the Knights needed an offensive spark. Junior transfer
Simon Hernandez (Caracas, Venezuela/South Kent School) came off the bench to start the second period and teamed up with junior
Jordon Ellison (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) to get the Knights going. Ellison sent a cross into the box and Hernandez, charging on net, headed the ball by the keeper for the goal.
The score, the first career goal for Hernandez, came in the 50
th minute.
However, despite good offensive pressure, the Knights were unable to tie the match.
The Blue Devils scored a pair of first half goals to take an early lead.
In the second minute of play, the Blue Devils earned a corner kick. The resulting kick was sent directly into the goal by CCSU's Filosmar Cordero.
In the 37
th minute, Louis Beddouri delivered a quick pass to Ryan Taylor cutting into the box, Taylor shot across to the far post for CCSU's second goal of the match.
The Blue Devils held a 15-11 advantage on shots, but FDU out shot CCSU 9-4 in the second period.
CCSU goal keeper Nick Velleca made four saves in the victory. Sophomore goalkeeper
Matthew Weigner (Warrington, Pa/Central Bucks South) made one for the Knights.
The Knights return to action on Friday, October 23 at Robert Morris.
