Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Three goals in a span of 3:09 of the second half was enough for Fairleigh Dickinson to secure the 3-0 win at LIU Brooklyn on Friday night. The Knights have won six in a row.
The three goals beats the three goals in 3:31 that the Knights scored against Sacred Heart earlier this season.
Fairleigh Dickinson (10-5, 4-0 NEC) is tied for first in the NEC with Saint Francis U. LIU Brooklyn (3-12, 0-5 NEC) drops to ninth place in the NEC.
Jessi Reinhardt (Friedberg, Germany/Burggymansium) scored first in the 79th minute and then again in the 82nd and
Dara Battistoni (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) scored in the 80th. Reinhardt's goals were her third and fourth of the season. Battistoni's was her first.
"I think we played a solid game. In the first we were slow in our counter attack. We had some chances to get in behind, but we looked to make the extra pass or dribble. We raised the tempo in the second half", said head coach
Eric Teepe after the game. "Getting the first goal pulls the other team out. Dara did a great job of coming off the bench and giving us some life."
Prior to her first goal, Reinhardt had a goal whipped out due to offside. Later, she tried to find
Carly Tice (Highland Falls, N.Y./James I. O'Neill) at the back post but was unable to. Battistoni got a pass from Tice then crossed in a ball that Reinhardt headed home to give Fairleigh Dickinson a 1-0 lead.
The freshman was involved in the Battistoni's goal as she played in a pass that Battistoni got on the end of and beat Jessica Montrose to her right post in the LIU goal.
"Jessi is starting to figure out and learn more about the college game. If she can continue to adapt to it she can become more and more dangerous", added Teepe.
Esther Rochon (Saint Romuald, Quebec/College Francois-Xavier-Garneau) found Reinhardt on the left then the freshman fired a shot from 25 yards out and beat Montrose to the far right corner of the goal.
Felicia Burr (Bellingham, Mass./Blackstone-Millville) made two saves and recorded her sixth shutout of the season. The senior has played every minute in goal for the Knights and is 10-5 on the season.
"Felicia is slowly getting healthy and more than anything she is getting more practice time", said Teepe.
In a scoreless first half, the Knights held a 10-3 lead in shots in the opening 45 minutes, but just one of those were on goal. LIU Brooklyn had three shots in the first half and eight total, but only two were on frame.
The Knights return to action on Sunday when they host Wagner at University Stadium. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
