Box Score PRINCETON, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team fell to Princeton on Tuesday night at Roberts Stadium. The Tigers (5-3-2) defeated the Knights (2-8-1) by a score of 4-1.
After a scoreless first period, Princeton grabbed a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the second half as Brendan McSherry headed in a cross from the left corner in the 50th minute. The Tigers added a second goal in the 58th minute on a goal by Josh Miller off a rebound of a shot by Bryam Windsor.
The Knights got on the board in the 73rd minute as junior
Christian Dietrich (Berlin, Germany/Flatow-Oberschule) sent a corner kick into the box where it was headed in by freshman
Aaron O'Raw (Cork, Ireland/Colaiste Choilm).
The goal is the first of O'Raw's career, while the assist is the team leading fifth of the year for Dietrich.
Princeton added a third goal in the 77th minute on a shot by Nico Hurtado and then scored a fourth goal in the 79th minute as McSherry scored on a free kick from 30 yards out.
The Tigers held a 17-9 edge in shots, while corner kicks were 6-5 in favor of the Knights.
In the first half, the Knights earned five corner kicks, including four between the 37th and 40th minutes. FDU also posted two shots on goal, while the Tigers had no shots on target.
The Knights registered three shots between the 19th and 23rd minutes. Freshman
Ahu Obhakhan (Drogheda, Ireland/St. Joseph CBS) took a shot, which was saved by the Princeton goalkeeper, sophomore
Brett Conrads (Andover, N.J./Newtown) followed 44 seconds later with a shot that missed high and sophomore
Casey Abelein (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Earl L. Vandermeulen) missed high with a header in the 23rd minute.
In the 36th minute, Conrads shot on goal, but the shot was saved. The Knights had to corner kick attempts in the ensuing minute, but were unable to generate a goal.
Senior keeper
Aleksandar Djekic (Belgrade, Serbia/Druga Ekonomska Skola) started in goal for the Knights and made two saves, but allowed four goals.
Obhakhan finished with two shots, including one of FDU's three shots on goal.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday night at University Stadium. FDU will host CCSU in a 7 p.m. match.
