Box Score MOON TOWNSHIP, PA – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team fell to Robert Morris on Thursday night at the Sewall Center in Moon Township, Pa. by a score of 87-65. The Knights (7-13, 2-7 NEC) were led by 17 points from freshman
Marques Townes (Edison, N.J./St. Joseph (Metuchen)), while the Colonials' (11-10, 7-2 NEC) Rodney Pryor posted 28 points and 11 rebounds.
The Colonials led for the final 38:56 of the game and held a 41-28 lead at the break. RMU would lead by as many as 25 points late in the second half.
"Robert Morris showed tonight that they are playing the best basketball in the NEC right now. Everytime we made a run they matched it and then some," head coach
Greg Herenda said after the game.
Four Knights recorded double-digit points led by Townes with 17. Freshman
Darian Anderson (Washington, D.C./St. John's College ) (12), senior
Mustafaa Jones (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) (10) and junior
Xavier Harris (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution) (10) also reached double figures.
The Colonials shot 50.0% (30-60) form the floor and 45.8% (11-24) from beyond the arc. RMU was also 16-of-22 at the free throw line. FDU shot 45.8% (27-59) from the field and 27.8% (5-18) from behind the three-point line. The Knights were just 6-of-15 at the free throw line.
RMU held a 39-32 advantage in rebounding.
Townes' 17 points came on 8-of-14 shooting. He also grabbed six rebounds and was credited with three steals.
Harris was four-of-eight from the floor and posted a team-best six rebounds. He also recorded three blocks in a team-high 33 minutes of action.
Sophomore
Malachi Nix (Evanston, Ill./Niles North) had a team-high four assists in the game.
FDU turned the ball over 13 times, but did force 11 RMU turnovers. The Knights were credited with nine steals and the Colonials 10.
"We now have to go to another tough building on Saturday. My guys are playing their hearts out, but obviously we are not getting the results that we want right now," Herenda added.
The Knights return to action on Saturday against Saint Francis U at 4 p.m.
