W. Soccer Sets Several Program Records with 8-0 defeat of Saint Peter's

Box Score

TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team defeated Saint Peter's, 8-0, during its home opener at University Stadium on Friday evening. The record-setting victory improves FDU to 4-1-0 on the season, while the Peacocks fall to 0-4-0 overall.

The Knights scored four goals in each half to set the program record for most goals in a single match. Other single-game records broken by FDU on Friday night were most assists (9) and most points (25).

"I feel like we were, as a team, very clinical in front of goal. We really seemed to be able to put together some nice quality chances," Head Coach Eric Teepe said, "I also feel our team was excited to play in front of a great supporting crowd, which we hope we will be able to get throughout the season."

Junior forward Esther Rochon (Saint Romuald, Quebec/College Francois-Xavier-Garneau) started the scoring with a header from six yards out off a cross from fellow classmate Katey Arathoon (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's ) just three minutes into the match. Nine minutes later, redshirt sophomore forward Rachel Hoekstra (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central ) was fed into the box by junior Amanda Goulet (Quebec City, Quebec/Shattuck-St. Mary's ) and slotted her shot under Peacocks' goalkeeper Lauren Solene for her second of the season.

A second Hoekstra goal followed in the 24th minute with a left-footed curler from the top of the box. In the 31st minute, reigning Northeast Conference Player of the Week Connie Lewis (Outer Cove, Newfoundland/Gonzaga ), dangerous throughout the half, rounded out the opening 45 minutes with her fifth goal in four consecutive matches.

Sophomore Gabrielle Gibson (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) netted the first goal of her collegiate career in the 51st minute off a rebound from a Lewis cross, who was credited with an assist. Senior Kasey Schiavoni (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) tied the program record with the sixth goal of the match just a minute later with an audacious shot from nearly 30 yards out.

Freshman Audrey Butcher (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) came away with the first of her two assists on the night when she played a long through-ball in for sophomore Jasmine Cornett (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack ) to slot under the goalkeeper and to break the record in the 79th minute. Butcher was at it again under a minute later when she played in junior Jovinna Chalensouk-Khaosaat (Fresno, Calif./Clovis ) to cap off the historic night with her first career goal, a powerful right-footed shot from the left side of the box into the lower right corner.

FDU outshot Saint Peter's, 27-5, and forced six saves from Peacocks' Solene and substitute Molly O'Halloran.

Goulet and Schiavoni continued to move up the all-time assists list tonight, while Hoekstra's two goals elevated her into a tie for sixth all-time with 12. Schiavoni tallied one assist, giving her nine for her career and sole possession of sixth place in program history. Goulet added two, her second straight game with a pair of helpers, to give her 10 overall, a mark that moves her into a three-way tie for third place in the record book.

Goulet's five assists this season matches her output from her first two seasons with the Knights.

Up next for FDU is a road contest in nearby Manhattan at Columbia. Kickoff on Tuesday, Sept. 9 is slated for 5 p.m.
