Box Score HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team dropped its opening contest of the CU Inaria Classic to Colgate, 3-1, on Friday night at Beyer-Small '76 Field. With the victory, the Raiders improve to 2-3-1 on the season, while the Knights fall to 1-5-1 overall.
The home team took an early 1-0 lead in the 10th minute of play when Tyler Forbes found the back of the net. But FDU quickly tied the match at 1-1 five minutes later when senior
Nico Wright (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Jamaica College) delivered a cross to junior
Christian Dietrich (Berlin, Germany/Flatow-Oberschule), who scored his first goal of the season on a header.
The score would remain deadlocked through halftime, but the Raiders took the lead for good just 97 seconds after the intermission, as Ethan Kulter scored to make it 2-1. Kulter would then tally his second goal of the night in the 78th minute to increase the advantage to the final score of 3-1.
FDU was outshot, 8-6, after both sides were knotted at 4-4 over the first 45 minutes. The Knights managed only two shots on goal, while Colgate produced five. Freshman goalkeeper
Matthew Weigner (Warrington, Pa/Central Bucks South) took the loss between the pipes and made two saves, while FDU forced Raiders' goalie Ricky Brown into one stop.
The Knights will conclude the CU Inaria Classic on Sunday when they travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to face Cornell for a 3 p.m. kickoff on Sunday, Sept. 21.
