Box Score 2 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team began the 2014 season with two tough losses by scores of 3-0 to UMBC and 3-0 to host UMES
on Friday at the Hawks Holiday Hullabaloo in Princess Anne, Md.

Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) led the defense recording a total of 23 digs for the day, and fellow classmate
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) was a catalyst for the offense with a total of 30 assists.

The Knights (0-2) started the day against UMBC (2-0) with the first set being a see-saw game. The Retrievers would take the match after going on a six-point run and never looked back to take the opening set, 25-15.

The second game would be a tough test for FDU. After UMBC went on a seven-point run with the set knotted at 12-12, a kill by senior
Hanifa Addi (Springdale, Md./Charles H. Flowers) would cut the deficit to 19-13, a chance that the Knights would not capitalize on. The Retrievers would go on to win the second set, 25-17.

In the third and final set, the Knights would fall just short after another strong battle. The two teams would go back and forth with the points for the whole match, with UMBC edging out the win 25-17.

With a quick turnaround, FDU was back on the court to face the host team, UMES (1-1), in the nightcap.

The Hawks came away with a 3-0 win, with scores of 25-22, 25-16, 25-21. The first game would show some hope for the Knights, where they would tie the scores up three times late in the set at 17-17, 18-18 and 22-22. The Hawks would hold on to the final lead to take the first game.

In the second set, UMES would break away from a 3-3 tie to take the advantage for good, before ending the game on a 12-5 run for a 25-16 victory.

FDU constructed its first lead of the tournament in the final game of the day after taking a 20-18 lead, but the Hawks came back to finish the match on a 7-1 run to take the third and final set, 25-21.

The Knights will try to get in the win column
on Saturday morning; with the first match against Weber state at
10 a.m. FDU concludes the tournament against South Dakota State at
4 p.m.Â
