Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson softball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader with Stony Brook on Thursday at University Field. The Knights were defeated in the opener, 3-0, before the Seawolves won the nightcap, 11-3, in five innings. With the sweep, Stony Brook improves to 29-14 on the season, while FDU falls to 14-18 overall.

Over three of their first four innings, the Knights had runners in scoring position, including runners on second and third with no one out in the top of the second, but could not come around to score. After FDU stranded runners at second and third to end the top of the fourth, junior Megan Reiner (Los Angeles, Calif./John Marshall) was one again bitten by the long ball, as the Seawolves' Alexandra Pisciotta homered following a one-out walk to give Stony Brook a 2-0 lead.

The home team tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI sacrifice fly to extend their advantage to 3-0. The Knights placed a runner on second base over the final two innings but failed to score.

Reiner (10-7) was charged with the loss after allowing three earned runs on five hits to go along with three walks and four strikeouts.

Allison Cukrov earned the victory in the circle for the Seawolves, as she scattered five hits in the complete-game shutout. She walked three and struck out five.

Junior Angelique Nieves (Union City, N.J./High Tech High School) led the way for the Knights by going 3-for-3 with a double and two singles. Kellie Reynolds collected two hits and a run to help pace Stony Brook.

In game two, Stony Brook scored single runs in the first and second innings before scoring three in the third to take a 5-0 lead.

Nieves put FDU on the scoreboard in the top of fourth, as her first home run of the season sliced the deficit to 4-1, but the Seawolves answered with two in the bottom of the frame to extend their advantage to 7-1.

Sophomore Madelaine Wilen (Bakerfield, Calif./Ridgeview High School) doubled home sophomore Emma DeLuca and redshirt senior Liz Woidt (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton) in the top of the fifth, which cut the Stony Brook lead to 7-4, but the Seawolves would score four runs in the bottom of the frame for the mercy-rule victory.

After Stony Brook scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth on a double by Jessica Combs and a FDU error, Madelaine Wilen (Bakerfield, Calif./Ridgeview High School) doubled home two runs in the top of the fifth to get the runs back for the Knights scoring Emma DeLuca and Liz Woidt (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton).

The Knights managed only four hits off of Seawolves' starter Jane Sallen, who allowed three runs, one earned, while walking none and striking out four.

Samantha Lemm (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional High School) (1-4) was charged with the loss after yielding 11 runs, 10 earned, on 11 hits in 4.1 innings of work. She walked one and struck out two.

FDU returns to action on Saturday, April 26 when it travels to Brooklyn, N.Y. to square off with LIU Brooklyn in a critical Northeast Conference doubleheader, as both sides are tied for the fourth and final NEC Tournament spot. First pitch for game one is slated for 1 p.m.
