Baseball at Siena, Hosting Iona Over Next Two Days

TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team returns to nonconference action this week starting with a road game at Siena on Tuesday at 4 p.m., before returning to the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex on Wednesday, April 23 to host Iona at 3:30 p.m. Both teams are members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).

Last Time Out
The Knights are coming off a four-game series split with Central Connecticut in Northeast Conference action over the weekend at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. After dropping the first two games (6-5, 3-0), FDU bounced back with a 9-0 victory, behind a two-hit shutout from junior John Chalupa (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury), and a 3-1 triumph, as the Knights scored three times in the bottom of the eighth. Riley Moonan (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero North) delivered the go-ahead RBI single, and sophomore John Giakas (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) collected a career-high four hits in the game.

What You Need To Know: The Saints come into Tuesday's action as the first-place team in the MAAC, having gone 10-2 so far this season. Siena has won six in a row and eight of nine and is coming off a series sweep of Iona over the weekend. As a team, the Saints are hitting .253 and averaging 4.2 runs per game. Vincent Citro leads the way with a .324 average, a team-best 48 hits, to go along with 21 runs and 13 RBI. Andres Ortiz adds a .309 average and team highs of two home runs and 21 RBI. On the bump, Siena is pitching to a 6.16 ERA and has yielded 381 hits in 293.2 innings.

What You Need To Know: The Gaels are in the midst of an eight-game losing streak, having last won April 6 at Manhattan to earn a series victory in MAAC play. As mentioned above, Iona was swept over the weekend by Siena and currently sit in last place in the conference. The Gaels struggle at the plate, hitting only .224 as a team while scoring 3.2 runs per game. The pitching staff has a team ERA of 5.45, striking out 119 and walking 111 in 236.1 innings.

FDU continues its week of nonconference games when it plays NJIT in a four-game series starting Saturday, April 26 with a doubleheader at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. A second doubleheader will be played in Newark, N.J. on Sunday April 27.
