Baseball Blanked at Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team dropped an out of conference contest with former Northeast Conference rival Monmouth, 10-0, on Wednesday at the MU Baseball Field. With the victory, the Hawks improve to 10-17 on the season, while the Knights fall to 7-19 overall.

Monmouth broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with three runs before adding two more in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. The Hawks would then put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

FDU managed only one hit on the day, which came off the bat of sophomore John Giakas (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) to start the top of the eighth, while Monmouth pounded out 16 hits off Knights' pitching. FDU threw nine different pitchers, and junior John Chalupa (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) (1-2) was charged with the loss after allowing three earned runs on four hits in the bottom of the third. Junior Joe Borelli (Wallingford, Conn./Mark T. Sheehan ), sophomore Nick Cuono (Hawthorne, N.J./Montvale Saint Joseph ), sophomore Ryan McGrath (Lansingburgh, N.Y./Lansingburgh), junior Anthony Calise (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) and junior Yonah Perline (Dix Hills, N.Y./St. Dominic) all threw one scoreless inning, with McGrath and Calise recording one strike out.

The Knights will look to bounce back on Thursday when they begin a four-game NEC series at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. First pitch for game one of the series is slated for 3 p.m.
