Baseball Renews Rivalry at Monmouth on Wednesday

TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team (7-18) heads to West Long Branch, N.J. on Wednesday to take on former Northeast Conference rival Monmouth (9-17) for a 3:30 p.m. contest. Also of note, redshirt sophomore Patrick McClure (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius ) has been named the third captain, Head Coach Gary Puccio announced Tuesday.

Last Time Out
The Knights dropped three of four games in their NEC series at Wagner over the weekend. FDU's lone victory came in the third contest, 7-3. Over the last five games, sophomore Ryan Brennan (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville)'s bat has heated up to a tune of a .467 batting average (7-for-13), while sophomore Dylan Sprague (Brunswick, N.Y./Averill Park) is also hitting an even .400 (8-for-20). Junior Riley Moonan (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero North) has collected five RBI over the stretch as well.

What You Need To Know: The Hawks have moved on from the NEC, joining the MAAC last July 1. Monmouth is only batting .237 has a team, but Jake Gronsky is hitting a team-best .330 while leading the Hawks with 31 hits, eight doubles and 18 runs. Craig Sweeny adds a .325 batting average and team highs of two home runs and 15 RBI for Monmouth, who averages 3.7 runs per game. On the mound, the Hawks have pitched to a 4.17 ERA, as the staff has allowed 109 runs on 207 hits in 207.0 innings. They have fanned 140 and walked just 64.

FDU will host Central Connecticut State for a four-game NEC series at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex starting Thursday, April 17. Game one will start at 3 p.m., followed by a seven-inning doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1 p.m., before Saturday's series finale at 1 p.m.
