M. Basketball Looks to End Mini-Skid at Wagner

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team (8-14, 4-4 NEC) will look to bounce back from a second-straight Northeast Conference road loss when it continues its four-game conference road stretch at Wagner (10-11, 4-4 NEC) on Thursday night. Tipoff at Spiro Sports Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on NEC Front Row.

Last Time Out
The Knights were defeated at Saint Francis U, 83-75, last Saturday, Feb. 1. FDU cut a 22-point deficit down to seven midway through the second half and could only trim the lead to six with eight seconds remaining. The Knights turned the ball over 16 times (13 in the first half and eight over the first eight minutes) and could never get completely on track despite shooting a season-high 55.4 percent from the field.

Senior Sidney Sanders Jr. (Charleston, S.C./Burke) scored 20 of his game-high 30 points after halftime and dished out eight assists while knocking down a career-best 12 field goals on a career-high 22 attempts. Sophomore Xavier Harris (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution) came off the bench to add a season-high 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting and grabbed a team-best six rebounds, while freshman Matt MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) and junior Mustafaa Jones (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

What You Need To Know: The Knights and the Seahawks are knotted in a three-way tie for fifth place in the NEC standings and will be playing the first of two games in a one-week period. FDU has lost five straight in the series and has not won on Staten Island in five years. Wagner has lost three of four and will be playing at home for the first time since Jan. 23 when it lost to CCSU, 87-83, after the Seahawks defeated the Blue Devils on the road by 29 in their conference opener. Wagner already swept the season series with LIU Brooklyn and won at Saint Francis U, 56-50, but has lost at Mount St. Mary's (89-80), Robert Morris (74-70) and last Saturday at St. Francis Brooklyn in overtime, 73-72. Senior Latif Rivers leads the Seahawks in scoring at 14.1 points per game, while two-time NEC Defensive Player of the Year Kenneth Ortiz adds 12.4 points and 4.3 assists per game. Junior Marcus Burton comes off the bench to chip in 10.3 points per game, as well as fellow classmates Jay Harris (9.8 ppg) and Mario Moody (9.5 ppg, team-best 6.5 rebounds per game).

FDU will play the final contest of its four-game conference road stretch when it plays a nationally-televised game at Central Connecticut State on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 11:30 a.m. The Knights handled the Blue Devils at Stratis Arena on Jan. 26, 86-73, in their first matchup of the season.
