DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team lost to Lehigh, 4-2, on Saturday at Wilson Field. With the victory, the Mountain Hawks improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Knights fall to 0-2 overall.

Sophomore
Joel Roman (East Hartford, Conn./East Hartford) got one run back for FDU in the top of the fifth with an RBI single to right field, plating freshman
Zach Tondi (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Bergen County Technical) and advancing junior
Ryan MacDonald (Bethpage, N.Y./Island Trees) to second. But with one out, junior
Shane Siebler (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) singled to center field, and MacDonald was thrown out at the plate. Junior
Riley Moonan (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero North) then walked, but the Knights would leave the bases loaded.
Three straight singles to start the top of the seventh yielded the second for FDU, with Siebler's RBI single to center scoring Roman and moving freshman
Matt McCann (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro ) to second. A fielder's choice then placed runners on the corners with one out, but the threat came to an abrupt end on a 6-4-3 inning-ending double play.
On the day, the Knights left nine men on base, including runners in scoring position in six different innings.
"Our base running mistakes were awful today," Head Coach
Gary Puccio said. "We played terrific defense again. We just need to correct stupid mistakes."
Junior
Brendan Butler (W. Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) (0-1) was tagged with the loss on mound after allowing four earned runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings of work, with four of the safeties coming during the four-run fourth. He walked three and struck out four.
Roman paced FDU's 11-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored. Siebler and Tondi each collected two hits for the Knights.
Nick Stephens earned the victory for the Mountain Hawks with a seven-strike out performance over the first 5.0 innings, scattering six hits. Joey McNamara pitched the final two innings to record the save.
Connor Faust had two hits and two RBI for Lehigh, while Tim McKay drove in the other two runs for the Mountain Hawks.
The two sides will face each other again on Sunday, with first pitch slated for 10 a.m. at Wilson Field.
