Box Score HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Senior
Mustafaa Jones (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti)' step-back three-point shot with 3.6 seconds left propelled the Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team to an exciting 77-76 victory over Felician College on Tuesday night in an exhibition contest inside Stratis Arena.
Jones led all scorers with 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field, including 5-of-8 from behind the arc in just 20 minutes.
"That was suppose to be an exhibition game, but it turned into a very good college game that we were fortunate to win," Head Coach
Greg Herenda said. "I am really very proud of how resilient our team was tonight. I think it is really hard to do, but we grew up a lot tonight in our first exhibition. At the end of the day our captain stepped up and won the game for us, and I doubt that it will be the last time this year."
Neither side led by more than six in the see-saw battle. The Knights used a variety of different lineups on the night, as only nine players saw action, with five scoring in double-figures, including Jones. Sophomore
Matt MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) shrugged off a tough shooting night by going 9-for-9 at the free throw line en route to 14 points, while freshman
Darian Anderson (Washington, D.C./St. John's College ) added 12 points and six assists at the point guard position.
Freshman
Marques Townes (Edison, N.J./St. Joseph (Metuchen)) narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds, which he shared with graduate student
Darius Stokes (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar), who produced a game-high three blocks. Junior
Xavier Harris (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution) added 10 points and five rebounds for FDU.
The Knights will have nearly 10 days off before starting their season on Friday, Nov. 14 when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on Saint Joseph's, with tipoff slated for 7 p.m.
