Box Score HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The FDU men's basketball team fell to 2-3 on the year with a 82-61 loss against Lafayette this evening in the Stratis Arena. The victory pushes the Leopards to 4-2 on the year.
"Lafayette is a very experienced offensive basketbal team and tonight we just didn't guard them or turn them over like we are capable of," said second-year head coach,
Greg Herenda. 'To beat quality opponents you need to do extraordinary things and our effort was excellent but our execution was not what it needs to be. I am very confident that things will be different here on Wednesday night. When we put everything together, this team is capable of doing great things."
Lafayette took an early 27-17 lead (8:15), but FDU would close the gap to 35-28 with 3:57 left in the first half. The Leopards finished the half on 6-4 run to extend the lead to 9-points (46-37) headed into the lockerroom at the half. In the second stanza, FDU cut the lead to as little as four on two different occasions but Lafayette used a 10-0 run spanning 2:00 to extend the lead to 19 (68-49) with 12:22 to play. The Leopards would push the lead to as many as 24 before settling on the 82-61 victory.
FDU was led by sophomore
Matt MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) who netted 15 points while also leading the team with six rebounds. Senior
Mustafaa Jones (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) and freshman
Darian Anderson (Washington, D.C./St. John's College ) rounded out the Knights in double figures scoring with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
FDU will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 3 as the Knights host Princeton at 9:30 p.m. in the Rothman Center on the Metropolitan Campus. This game is the second half of a doubleheader with the first game featuring the FDU women's team versus West Virginia at 7:00 p.m.
