M.Basketball Looks for 2-0 NEC Start at Sacred Heart

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team (5-10, 1-0 NEC) will look to begin Northeast Conference play 2-0 for the first time in three seasons when it travels to Fairfield, Conn. to face Sacred Heart (3-13, 0-1 NEC) on Saturday. Tipoff at the William H. Pitt Center is slated for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live on NEC Front Row.

Last Time Out
The Knights rallied for an 85-79 victory on Thursday night at Stratis Arena in their NEC opener. Senior Sidney Sanders Jr. (Charleston, S.C./Burke) scored a career-high 32 points (12-of-21 field goals, 3-of-3 from three-point range), while freshman Matt MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) added a career-best 21 points (12-of-14 free throws). Senior Mathias Seilund (Dragoer, Denmark/Falkonergaardens Gymnasium) chipped in 16 points and tied a career high in rebounds with eight.

FDU turned the ball over a season-low six times against the Mount's full-court pressure. The Knights connected on 43.1 percent of their shots from the field and knocked down a season-high 29 free throws (on 36 attempts), including their final eight to seal the victory. The win also gave FDU its first 3-1 start at Stratis Arena since the 2007-08 season.

What You Need To Know: The Pioneers have struggled so far on the year under first-year head coach Anthony Latina but have two of their wins have come on the road at Fordham and Hofstra. Sacred Heart opened NEC play with a 79-70 loss at home to Robert Morris on Thursday night. The Pioneers feature five players that average double figures in scoring: Evan Kelly (14.1), Chris Evans (12.5), Louis Montes (11.4), Steve Glowiak (10.7) and De'Von Barnett (10.3). Mostafa Abdel Latif leads the team in rebounding at 5.6 rebounds per game, while floor general Phil Gaetano is one of the top distributors in the league at 5.9 assists per game.
