SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team fell one goal short of upsetting Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Syracuse on the road, as the Knights fell to the Orange, 2-1, on Thursday night. With the victory, the Syracuse improve to 4-1 on the season, while FDU falls to 2-2 overall.
After trailing 2-0 at halftime and being outshot, 9-1, over the first 45 minutes, the Knights rebounded in the second half. FDU scored the lone goal of the frame when sophomore
Kayla Adams (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering ) corraled ball after Orange goalkeeper Brittany Anghel punched the ball out after a free kick. Adams then found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 62nd minute. But it was not enough as Syracuse able to escape with the victory.
Over the final 45 minutes, the Knights outshot the Orange, 5-2.
Reigning Northeast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Sage DoVale (Lilburn, Ga./Collins Hill) made three big saves for FDU in goal for the match, all in the first half.
The home team took an early 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute after Maddie Iozzi scored after she collected the rebound on the initial shot off the post. Six minutes later, Syracuse extended the lead to 2-0 when Alexis Royal scored on a corner kick.
The Knights will look to move back above .500 on Sunday, Sept. 8 when they host Hartford for a 1 p.m. contest at University Stadium.
