SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team will travel to New York State to take on the Orange of Syracuse University on Thursday, Sept. 5. Kickoff at SU Soccer Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.
The Knights are 2-1 on the year with wins over Iona and Rider and a setback at Stony Brook.
Offensively, the Knights have been led by a trio of Canadian players. Rookie Connie Lewis (Outer Cove, Newfoundland/Gonzaga ) leads the team with one goal and one assist on the season, while sophomores Amanda Goulet (Quebec City, Quebec/Shattuck-St. Mary's ) and Esther Rochon (Saint Romuald, Quebec/College Francois-Xavier-Garneau) have each added one goal through three games.
Senior goalkeeper Sage DoVale (Lilburn, Ga./Collins Hill) recorded her second shutout of the season against Rider on Sunday and was named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the performance.
The Orange is 3-1 on the season and is currently in the midst of a two-game win streak during their inaugural season with the ACC. Syracuse opened the 2013 campaign with a 3-2 win over Hofstra before falling to West Virginia at the Penn State Invitational. Last week, the team defeated Albany, 4-0, and edged Colgate, 1-0, at home to improve to 3-1 on the year.
Sophomore Erin Simon has led the squad with 10 points on the year. The New Jersey native has tallied four goals and two assists through four games. Rookie Stephanie Skilton has added seven points for the Orange with three goals and one assist. The international player also leads the team with two game-winning goals.
Senior goal keeper Brittany Anghel has played all 360 minutes in goal for the Orange and holds a save percentage of .692 and a goals against average of 1.0.
Prior to this season, the Knights had faced an ACC opponent just once before. FDU fell to the University of Maryland, 2-1, during the 2007 campaign, which was also the last time the Knights matched up with Syracuse. The Knights and Orange met on three occasions between 2004 and 2007, with the Orange holding a 2-1 win-loss advantage. FDU defeated Syracuse at University Stadium in Teaneck, N.J., 3-0, to open the 2005 season.
Following Thursday's matchup, the Knights will take on Hartford on Sunday, Sept. 8. FDU will host the Hawks at University Stadium in a rematch of a 1-1 tie from the 2012 campaign. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
