LORETTO, Pa. -- Sophomore Darrell Gooding's fourth-place finish out of 94 runners paced the Fairleigh Dickinson men's cross country team at Saturday's Father Bede Invitational, which featured eight teams out of the Northeast Conference.
Gooding finished the 8K (4.96 miles) race in a time of 27:03 on the Immergrun Golf Course, 20 seconds behind the winner. It was his second-best time of the spring, and he shaved four seconds off from last weekend at the Monmouth Invitational.
Next to finish for the Knights was senior
Philip Guth (Rostoch, Germany/CJD Rostoch) (31:31), who was running in his first race of the season. Five seconds later, junior
Cody Shave (Amsterdam, N.Y./Fonda-Fultonville) completed the course with his best time of the year.
Senior
Frank Ortiz (Union City, N.J./Union City) (32:20) and freshman
Dayron Brown (Millville, N.J./Millville) (32:27) were the next FDU runners to cross the finish line, both establishing season bests, while freshman
Kazeem Otun (Rahway, N.J./Rahway ) (32:51) and sophomore
Jenya Dyagilev (Almaty, Kazakhstan/Fort Lee, N.J.) (32:55) rounded out the times for the Knights.
As a team, FDU finished ninth in the overall standings.
The Knights will return to action Oct. 11 at the Metropolitan Championships, where they will run at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. for the second time this season
