TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team will look to begin the season 2-0 when they travel to Stony Brook University on Sunday, Aug. 25. Kickoff at LaValle Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
FDU is fresh off a season opening 1-0 win over Iona. The Knights defeated the Gaels on their home turf on Friday, Aug. 23 with a goal from freshman Connie Lewis (Outer Cove, Newfoundland/Gonzaga ). FDU outshot Iona 6-4 in Friday's contest with four shots on target. Senior keeper Sage DoVale (Lilburn, Ga./Collins Hill) recorded her first shutout of the season with one save.
The win on opening day marked just the second time an FDU team has earned a 'W' in its season opener. An FDU women's soccer team has never started 2-0.
The Seawolves battled Seton Hall to a 2-2 tie on Friday to open the season with a record of 0-0-1. SBU took an early 2-0 lead with goals from sophomore Stella Norman and 2012 leading scorer Larissa Nysch, but were met with a two-goal retaliation from the Pirates. The teams battled through 120 minutes to finish with a tie. Stony Brook goal keeper Ashley Castanio made a career-high 10 saves on the night, while the Stony Brook offensive produced four shots that challenged the SHU keeper.
Sunday's matchup will be the first meeting between the Knights and the Seawolves in the Knights' 14-year history.
Following Sunday's contest, the Knights will return home to host the Broncs of Rider University on Sunday, Sept. 1. Kickoff at University Stadium will take place at 1 p.m.
