CANTON, Mich. – After a full day of action, the Fairleigh Dickinson University women's bowling team ended with a record of 5-2 in the qualifying rounds of the NCAA National Collegiate Tournament at Super Bowl Lanes on Thursday, April 11. The Knights earned the second seed, as competition enters a double-elimination bracket on Friday, April 12.
After tying Nebraska and Sam Houston State University with a 5-2 record, the Knights took the second seed with a pinfall of 6,990 through seven traditional team games.
“We have been fortunate enough to play in this seeding round of the NCAA Championship Tournament often,” Head Coach Mike LoPresti said. “But it is still the toughest day of the season; it zaps all of your energy and emotion.”
“We are so proud of our players for playing so well today,” LoPresti said. “Still, we have to be able to play at this level tomorrow during the elimination rounds. We used today's action to prepare us for tomorrow. We think we have a good plan and believe we will succeed.”
In match one, the Knights faced top-seed Central Missouri and began the contest with four strikes in the first frame and built a small lead through the second frame. In the fifth and sixth frames, the Knights compiled nine-consecutive strikes to take control of the game.
