Baseball Falls to Norfolk State, 15-2

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team concluded its weekend trip with a 15-2 loss to Norfolk State at Tiger Field on Sunday, March 3. With the victory, the Spartans improve to 3-6 on the season, while the Knights fall to 2-2 overall.

NSU scored at least two runs in four of the first five innings to jump out to a 9-0 lead. FDU scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning on a RBI single from senior Eric Anderson (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands) and a RBI fielder's choice from sophomore Shane Siebler (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area).

The Spartans would score one more in the sixth, three in the seventh and two in the eighth to cruise to the victory.

The Knights managed nine hits on the day, with Siebler, senior Kyle Weeks (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood) and sophomore Ryan MacDonald (Bethpage, N.Y./Island Trees) each collecting two.
Sophomore Joe Borelli (Wallingford, Conn./Mark T. Sheehan ) (0-1) took the loss on the mound for FDU. Over 4.0 innings, he allowed seven runs, five earned, on seven hits, while walking two and striking out one.

Overall, 12 of the 15 runs allowed were earned, as the Knights' defense committed three errors on the day. FDU pitching also walked 10 batters, hit three batsmen and threw three wild pitches.

Richie Slater picked up the win on the mound for NSU, as he scattered seven hits over 7.0 innings of work. The southpaw allowed both runs, which were not earned, walked one and struck out five.

The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, March 6 for their 2013 home opener against Saint Peter's. First pitch at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex is scheduled for 3 p.m.
