TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team will have a busy week during its spring break, playing six games over the next six days. The Knights will host NJIT on Tuesday at 3 p.m. for their 2013 home opener at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex.

FDU will then hit the road and take on a pair of NCAA Tournament teams from last season: St. John's (Sweet Sixteen) and Stony Brook (College World Series). The Knights will play the Red Storm in Queens, N.Y. on Wednesday, March 13, in a game that will be broadcast live on ESPN3, before traveling to Long Island to play the Seawolves in Stony Brook, N.Y. on Thursday, March 14. First pitch for both contests is scheduled for 3 p.m.

After an off day on Friday, FDU will host New York Tech for a three-game series over the weekend at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. The two sides will play in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, and will conclude the series with a single game on Sunday, March 17 at 1 p.m.

The Knights are coming off a winless weekend at Campbell where they were outscored 40-12 over three games, dropping their record to 2-5 on the season. Freshman John Giakas (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) hit .571 (4-for-7) with three RBI and two runs, while senior Eric Anderson (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands) hit .417 (5-for-12) with five RBI in the three-game series.

NJIT is off to a 4-7 start on the season, playing all 11 games away from home. The Highlanders started the year with five straight losses to North Carolina Central and Oklahoma State before winning three at Coppin State. Over the weekend, NJIT lost two of three to Presbyterian, including a pair of low-scoring one-run losses (2-1 (12), 3-2). The Highlanders salvaged the final game of the series with a 1-0 victory.

Sophomore Ed Charlton leads NJIT in hits (12), runs (8), triples (2), home runs (1), RBI (7) and stolen bases (4) while hitting .279. Senior lefty Tripp Davis has made four starts on the bump and is 0-2 with a 3.12 ERA and has struck out 16 and walked six in 26.0 innings. Senior Mark Leiter, Jr. has also made four starts on the mound and is 2-2 with a 3.20 ERA and one shutout. He has struck out 25 and walked only five in 25.1 inning of work. Junior Matt Coughlin leads the bullpen in four appearances with a 1-1 record and a 1.50 ERA in 12.0 innings of relief.

NJIT leads the all-time series, 4-1, and defeated FDU, 12-5, last season on April 24 at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. The Highlanders broke open a 7-5 game in the top of the ninth with five runs.

St. John's is 3-11 in the early going and just took two out of three games at Radford over the weekend. The Red Storm's other win came at Georgia Tech in a three-game series, which snapped a five-game losing streak. St. John's is scheduled to host Hofstra on Tuesday before playing the Knights on Wednesday afternoon.

Redshirt junior Martin Kelly is hitting .423 (22-for-52) with seven doubles, seven runs and eight RBI, while freshman Ty Blankmeyer leads the team with two home runs and 12 RBI. Freshman Mike Sheppard III is scheduled to make the start for the Red Storm and has posted a 16.20 ERA in two appearances totaling 1.2 innings.

St. John's leads the all-time series 40-8-1, and defeated FDU, 15-7, last season on March 14 at Kaiser Stadium in Queens.

Stony Brook, who made the 2012 College World Series a year ago, is off to a 3-10 start on the season but snapped a nine-game losing streak with a win at home over Iona on March 5. The Seawolves then won two of the first three games of a four-game set at Fordham, which concludes Monday afternoon in the Bronx, N.Y.

Stony Brook is only hitting .209 as a team because of their tough nonconference schedule. Freshman Johnny Caputo leads the team with 11 hits, three doubles and five RBI while hitting .250. Junior Brandon McNitt has started four games on the mound, throwing a team-high 23.0 innings, while going 1-1 with a 4.30 ERA and eight strikeouts.

The Seawolves lead the all-time series, 5-0, and won both contests last season: 17-5 on March 7 at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex; 9-0 at Joe Nathan Stadium in Stony Brook.

A preview for the three-game series with New York Tech will be released on Friday.
