BRADLEY BEACH, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's bowling team reclaimed first place in the Northeast Conference after going 7-2 at NEC Meet Two this weekend at Bradley Beach Bowl.
The Knights went 4-1 on Saturday, Feb. 2 and 3-1 on Sunday, Feb. 3 to take over sole possession of first place in the conference. NEC Meet two consisted of nine quint Baker matches.
On Saturday, the Knights faced host Monmouth University in match one. With scores of 203, 195, 222, 189 and 215, the Knights compiled a total score of 1,024 to defeat the Hawks, who scored 927.
In match two took on St. Francis Brooklyn. The Knights earned a 1,023-927 win with Baker scores of 201, 179, 200, 238 and 205, while the Terriers recorded a total score of 972.
FDU challenged in-state opponent, Saint Peter's on match three. The Knights won their third straight match, 952-780, after bowling scores of 206, 203, 171, 172 and 200.
The Knights dropped the only game of Saturday's competition against Saint Francis University in match four. The Knights recorded games of 157, 172, 160, 223 and 165 for a total 877, while the Red Flash knocked down four more pins for a score of 881.
FDU bounced back in the final game of day one to defeat LIU Brooklyn, 1,147-922. The Knights recorded high scores of 186, 213, 146, 256 and 246.
After breaking competition for the night, FDU faced Sacred Heart University in the first match of day two. The Pioneers compiled games of 184, 208, 179, 162 and 192 for a total 925, while the Knights bowled 195, 201, 224, 212 and 183 for a 1,015. The win put the Knights ahead of Kutztown University in first place with an overall NEC record of 11-4.
New Jersey City University was the Knights' second opponent of day two. The Gothic Knights bowled games of 139, 206, 192, 160 and 163, while FDU earned a win with scores of 156, 180, 256, 168 and 192. The final score favored FDU, 952-860.
In match three of the day the Knights faced Adelphi. The Panthers took an early lead with scores of 178, 171, 212 and 147, while the Knights bowled 171, 159, 192 and 180. In game five, the Knights overcame a 16-point deficit to win 885-883 and move to 13-5.
The Knights fell to Kutztown University in the final game of the weekend. The Knights bowled games of 132, 191, 169, 189 and 203 for a total 884, while the Golden Bears recorded scores of 230, 170, 202, 170 and 147 for a 919.
The Knights maintain first place in the conference standings, while Kutztown and Saint Francis University sit tied for second place.
“Overall, it was a positive weekend,” said Head Coach Mike LoPresti. “We made a lot of improvements compared to last weekend's level of play, but we are still not firing on all cylinders.”
The Knights will compete at the Delaware State Capitol Classic in Dover, Del. Friday, Feb. 8 through Sunday, Feb. 10.
