HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team (3-7) will look to bounce back Saturday night when it continues its seven-game road swing with a contest at Princeton in the first-ever meeting between the two Garden State schools. Tipoff at Jadwin Gymnasium is scheduled for 7 p.m. and a free live audio broadcast will take place on FDUKnights.com.
Last Time Out
The Knights, fresh off two road victories over Garden State rivals Rutgers and Princeton, fell on Wednesday night at Stony Brook, 77-62. FDU, who trailed by as many as 17 points early in the second half, cut the deficit to 62-59 with 3:17 to go, but the Seawolves would outscore the Knights, 15-3, over the final 2:40, with 10 coming on free throws, to pull away for the victory.
Senior point guard
Sidney Sanders Jr. (Charleston, S.C./Burke) , the current Northeast Conference Player of the Week, Lou Henson Award Winner Player of the Week and Big Apple Buckets Player of the Week, once again led FDU in nearly every statistical category. The co-captain poured in a career-high 28 points (12-of-20 shooting), grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, dished out a game-high six assists and recorded the team's lone steal in 39 minutes of action. Freshman
Matt MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) was only other player recording double-figures in scoring after netting 11.
The Knights outshot Stony Brook from the field and made more three-pointers, but the difference in the game came at the free throw line, as the Seawolves outscored FDU, 28-5. The Knights were also outrebounded, 38-26, thus losing the rebounding battle for the ninth time in 10 contests.
Princeton
2013-14 Season: 5-1
When: Saturday, Dec. 7 (Jadwin Gymnasium)
Series History: First Meeting
What You Need To Know: The Tigers are 5-1 for the first time since the 1997-98 campaign when current head coach Mitch Henderson was a senior on the team. Princeton has not played since last Saturday when it handled Bucknell on the road, 66-53. Conversely, FDU will be playing its fifth road game in less than two weeks. Sophomore forward Hans Brase led Princeton at Bucknell with 15 points, five rebounds and seven assists, while senior T.J. also scored 15 points to go along with nine rebounds. The Tigers have a balanced offense and are solid defensively, especially on the perimeter. Five players average 10 points per game or more, and nearly every player receiving minutes is knocking down 40 percent from three-point range. Princeton's only loss came on the road at two-time NCAA Tournament finalist Butler, 70-67.
