M. Basketball Opens a New Era This Weekend

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team will begin a new era Friday night at Stratis Arena when it hosts Caldwell in the 2013-14 season opener at 7 p.m. The contest will mark the first game for first-year Head Coach Greg Herenda.

Following Friday's contest, the Knights will travel to Hempstead, N.Y. to face Hofstra for a 4 p.m. tipoff at the Mack Sports Complex on Sunday, Nov. 10. The Pride opens their season Friday night at home against Monmouth.

What You Need To Know: Junior Michael Balkovic was named Third Team All-CAAC for the 2012-2013 season after averaging 16.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. The next two highest scorers on the Cougars also return in Wyatt Polk and Kevin Walker. Head Coach Mark Corino is closing in on 500 career wins, which will make him just one of three New Jersey men's basketball coaches to reach that mark.

What You Need To Know: Joe Mihalich joins the Pride as the new head coach for the 2013-2014 season. Mihalich was previously the head coach at Niagara, where he led the Purple Eagles to two NCAA tournament bids and three NIT invitations. Hofstra enters this season with a number of new players after having lost most of their top scorers from a year ago. The top returning scorer is Moussa Kone, who averaged 6.5 points per game. The Knights and Pride will be playing a home-and-home series this season.
