The Knights then recorded a stop on defense, scored a layup with three seconds left and watched Rutgers swish a three-quarter-court shot to make the final score 73-72 for their first victory over the Scarlet Knights in the 11-game series since Dec. 1, 1993 (FDU 56 Rutgers 53).

Sidney Sanders Jr. (Charleston, S.C./Burke) recorded his first career double-double with 22 points and 10 assists (one turnover), tying career highs in both categories; junior
Mustafaa Jones (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) drained 5-of-9 from three en route to scoring a career-best 21 points to go along with a career-high eight rebounds, while MacDonald chipped in a career-best 14 points and six rebounds while knocking down 4-of-8 from distance.
FDU held Rutgers to only 32.3 percent from the floor in the second half and 38.6 percent (22-of-57) for the game, including 7-of-20 from behind-the-arc. The Knights shot 13-of-26 from the field and 8-of-15 from distance in the second half, finishing the contest at 42.9 percent (21-of-49) from the floor and 47.8 percent (11-of-23) from three.

What You Need To Know: The Pirates have been idle since Nov. 23, which was when they defeated Virginia Tech, 68-67, in the third-place game of the 2013 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at the Barclays Center. The day before, Seton Hall blew a seven-point lead with 76 seconds to go in an 86-85 defeat to Oklahoma at the Barclays. The Pirates took care of Niagara (83-72) and Kent State (78-76) in the opening rounds of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, before losing at Mercer in double overtime, 77-74, and beating Monmouth at home, 82-66. Sterling Gibbs leads Seton Hall in scoring at 16.3 points per game and dishes out a team-best 4.5 assists per game; Fuquan Edwin, who is the lone Pirate to start all six contests this season, adds 15.2 points and 2.7 steals per game; Patrik Auda chips in 12.0 points and a team-high 5.6 rebounds per game. FDU last defeated Seton Hall, 76-71, on Nov. 18, 2006, the Knights last victory over a "big" school before their victory over Rutgers.
