M. Soccer Bitten By Bryant, 1-0, in Critical NEC Showdown

Box Score

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team lost to Bryant, 1-0, Sunday at Bulldog Soccer Field in a battle of fourth-place Northeast Conference teams. With the victory, the Bulldogs move into third place in the standings and improve to 6-8-1 (3-2-1 NEC) on the season, while the Knights drop to a fifth-place tie with LIU Brooklyn and fall to 9-7-1 (2-3-1 NEC) overall.

The difference in the contest came in the 54th minute when Brett Larocque chipped a shot over the head of senior goalkeeper Jacob Lissek (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon) for the lone goal of the game.

FDU outshot the Bulldogs, 11-5, including 6-2 over the first 45 minutes. Sophomore Simon Doherty (West Lothian, Scotland/West Calder) had two of the Knights' three shots on goal in the contest. Lissek made three saves between the pipes for FDU.

The Knights will need help if they want to defend their NEC championship. FDU must win next Sunday, Nov. 10 at Sacred Heart, have LIU defeat St. Francis Brooklyn next weekend and hope Robert Morris loses one of its final two contests of the season. Next Sunday's kickoff with the Pioneers is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Fairfield, Conn.
