M. Basketball to Conclude NIT Season Tip-Off at Rutgers

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team (1-5) will conclude the NIT Season Tip-Off when it travels to Rutgers' campus in Piscataway, N.J. on Monday and Tuesday for a pair of contests in the consolation bracket. The Knights will first square off with Norfolk State for a 5 p.m. matchup on Monday, before playing Rutgers on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.

Last Time Out
FDU returned to Stratis Arena and was defeated by Garden State rival Saint Peter's, 67-63. Senior Sidney Sanders Jr. (Charleston, S.C./Burke) scored 13 of his team-high 19 points after halftime and added a team-best four assists and five rebounds. Freshman Matt MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) pulled down a career-high six rebounds to lead the Knights on the glass. The difference in the contest came at the free throw line where Saint Peter's outscored FDU, 29-10, while attempting 37 free throws compared to the Knights' 18 chances. The Knights finished the game shooting 37.3 percent (22-of-59), including 9-of-23 from behind-the-arc, and held Saint Peter's to only 34.0 shooting (16-of-47) and 6-of-20 from three. FDU only turned the ball over eight times while forcing 13 Peacocks' miscues, which gave FDU a 16-7 advantage on points off turnovers. But the visitors held a 39-32 advantage on the glass.

Norfolk State

What You Need To Know: The Spartans split their two contests in the NIT, with a pair of squeakers: 76-74 loss to East Carolina, 80-78 victory over UNC Asheville. Both contests were held on the campus of Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C. Norfolk State has three players averaging in double-figures in scoring, with Malcolm Hawkins leading the way at 20.6 points per game. Pendarvis Williams adds 17.0 points per game, while RaShid Gaston chips in 15.0 points and a team-best 9.3 rebounds per game.

Rutgers

What You Need To Know: The Scarlet Knights are in the midst of playing three games in four days and eight contests overall in a span of 19 days. Rutgers started out the season 3-1, including a victory over Canisius in the NIT, before being upset by Drexel in the next round at home, 70-59. The Scarlet Knights are coming off another home loss this past Saturday to William & Mary, 72-62, which saw Rutgers blow a nine-point halftime lead by allowing William & Mary to score the first 20 points after halftime. Queens native Kadeem Jack leads a trio of players averaging in double-figures in scoring with 16.5 points to go along with a team-best 8.8 rebounds and nearly 2.0 blocks per game. The Scarlet Knights have used the same starting lineup in all six contests this season and will play Stillman College on Monday night.
